Westover boys, Overhills girls draw byes in upcoming Cape Fear Valley 3-A basketball tournaments

 

Westover and Overhills, the boys' and girls' regular-season champions, respectively, will have first-round byes when the Cape Fear Valley 3-A Conference tournament begins next week.

Westover's boys finished the regular season 19-4 overall and 11-1 in league play. The Wolverines will host Thursday's semifinals, when they will take on the winner of Tuesday's Douglas Byrd-Gray's Creek game. The winners of the other two first-round games will play at Westover at 6 p.m. Thursday. The boys' championship game is Friday at 7:30, and will be played at the school that hosts the girls' title game.

Girls' play is set to begin Monday. The semifinals will take place at Overhills (17-5, 12-0) at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The championship game will be Friday at 6 p.m. and hosted by the higher seed.

#5 Gray's Creek at #4 Douglas Byrd

#6 Union Pines at #3 Overhills

Thursday, at Westover

6 p.m. - Western Harnett-Southern Lee winner vs. Union Pines-Overhills winner

7:30 p.m. - Gray's Creek-Douglas Byrd winner vs. #1 Westover

Friday

7:30 p.m. - Semifinal winners (hosted by highest remaining seed in girls' tournament)

GIRLS

Monday

#5 Gray's Creek at Westover, 7 p.m.

#6 Douglas Byrd at #3 Union Pines, 7 p.m.

#7 Western Harnett at #2 Southern Lee, 6 p.m.

Wednesday, at Overhills

6 p.m. - Douglas Byrd-Union Pines winner vs. Western Harnett-Southern winner

7:30 p.m. - Gray's Creek-Westover winner at #1 Overhills

Friday, 6 p.m.
