Prep football: A look at Jack Britt's state championship final history
Britt's history
Jack Britt has made three previous trips to the state championship game. Here's a quick look at those contests:
2004 - Greenville Rose 19, Jack Britt 17
Maurice Weaver scored on a 1-yard run with 9:17 left to rally Rose to victory in the 4-A title game in Chapel Hill. Weaver rushed for 182 yards on 21 carries and led Rose to its second consecutive championship.
Britt had rallied from an early 13-3 deficit to take a 17-13 lead on the strength of two touchdown passes from Alex Butler to Brandon Ghee. Butler was 9-for-22 passing for 160 yards.
2008 - Richmond 38, Jack Britt 35
Tedarrius Wiley hit Lovell Joy with a 4-yard pass with 53 seconds left to lift the Raiders to the 4-AA title in Chapel Hill. Britt was trying to run out the clock but lost the ball to the Raiders on a fumble in the waning minutes by Eric Johnson that set up Richmond's game-winning drive.
Britt had rallied from a 21-14 deficit to take a 35-24 lead. Everett Proctor threw a 58-yard scoring pass to Chris Maheu and Tremale France scored on runs of 23 and 3 yards.
Proctor finished the game with 75 yards rushing and 215 yards passing. Wiley threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns for the Raiders.
2009 - Matthews Butler 48, Jack Britt 17
In Raleigh, Matthews Butler broke open a close game in the second half and rolled in the 4-AA finals.
Butler's Christian LeMay threw three touchdown passes, giving him 44 for the season, and finished with 189 yards passing.
The score was tied briefly in the first half when touchdown runs of 80 yards by Britt's Greg Bryant and 7 yards by Eric Johnson made it 14-all.
Butler held a 27-17 halftime lead before pulling away in the second half.
Johnson and Bryant both top the 100-yard mark in the game. Johnson had 139 on 23 carries while Bryant had 108 on 11. Britt completed only 11 passes.
