Fairmont football barred from postseason play

CHAPEL HILL - Fairmont's football team has been barred from playoffs this season because four of its players were ejected during Friday night's game against Lake View, S.C.

According to N.C. High School Athletic Association rules, if three or more players are ejected from a team in any sport in the course of a season, that team is barred from playoffs for that year.

Fairmont officials sent video of the incident, which happened in the final seconds of the game, to the NCHSAA in hopes that it would overturn the game officials' ruling.

Que Tucker, Deputy Executive Director of the NCHSAA, said Thursday that the association will not overturn the ruling of the game officials.

Fairmont, a member of the Three Rivers 2A/1A Conference, is 2-2 and will host Wilmington Ashley on Friday.
