Westover football: 5 to watch
A look at Wolverines football players likely to make an impact this season.
Henry Howard
Position: Quarterback
Height/weight: 6-0, 210
Class: Senior
About Howard: Despite completing just 35 percent of his attempted passes last year, Howard averaged more than 12 yards per completion. He'll have a new target in Kendall Lindsey, who joins the Wolverines this year.
Cherrod Williams
Position: Defensive line
Height/weight: 6-1, 250
Class: Senior
About Williams: He was a second-team all-Cape Fear Valley Conference selection last year, when he tallied 58 tackles for the Wolverines.
Jon Reid
Position: Offensive tackle
Height/weight: 6-2, 275
Class: Junior
About Reid: He will likely take on more responsibility on the offensive line this year, helping to block while the offense tries passing plays from Howard, and running plays featuring Marquies Hall.
Johnte White
Position: Tight end/outside linebacker
Height/weight: 6-2, 210
Class: Senior
About White: His role is mostly defensive. He earned second-team all-conference honors last season among defensive backs. He added four catches, one for a touchdown, at the tight end spot.
Marquies Hall
Position: Running back
Height/weight: 5-11, 185
Class: Senior
About Hall: He's the Wolverines' only returning first-team all-conference player. Hall rushed for 1,050 yards in 2011, making him the first 1,000-yard rusher at the school since Christian Russell in 2009.
