East Bladen football coach Lenon Fisher stepping down June 30
ELIZABETHTOWN - Veteran East Bladen football coach Lenon Fisher will step down as coach and physical education teacher at the school effective June 30.
The announcement was made Tuesday in a press release from East Bladen principal Jeremy Batchelor.
"Coach Fisher is a tremendous football coach, educator and role model," Batchelor said in the release. "His presence and hard work have probably been one of the best dropout prevention programs in our school.
"He has not only coached football and won games, but he has established relationships with young men that helped them graduate from high school and move into the next phases of their lives. You can never replace a coach like that."
Fisher has been on the staff at East Bladen since 1980, winning over 250 games, a number of conference titles and one Eastern Regional title. The stadium at East Bladen was named in his honor in 2010.
The school will begin its search for a new coach immediately, but does not have a timetable for naming Fisher's replacement.
