Sidney Cook sets South View's single-game rebound record in 60-38 win over Pine Forest

Pine Forest coach Ben Jones shook his head following his team's 60-38 loss against visiting South View on Friday.

"You can't out-rebound them," the coach said. "A shot goes up and you can't get to the glass."

Certainly not when Tiger senior Sidney Cook is at the top of her game.

The 6-2 forward set a school single-game record with 20 rebounds, pairing the rebounds with a game-high 20 points for a double-double.

"I'm shocked," Cook said of her record. "I don't know. I just went to work on the boards."

Cook unseats 2003 alum Adrienne Rieley, who set the previous mark with 18 rebounds in a contest during her junior year.

The Tigers combined for 45 rebounds on the night, while allowing Pine Forest to grab just 15.

The win preserves a perfect record for the Tigers, who sit atop the Mid-South 4-A Conference at 7-0 and 16-0 overall.

The Trojans (12-4, 4-3) entered the game tied for second with Seventy-First, which earned a win over E.E. Smith to stand alone behind the Tigers.

South View didn't pull away early, nursing a 29-22 halftime lead following a six-point quarter from Trojan guard Rinesha Frazier.

Frazier led Pine Forest with 11 points.

During the crucial third quarter, the Tigers gained the advantage on both sides of the ball to outscore Pine Forest 12-7.

"The third quarter is the shutdown quarter," Cook said. "That's where we come out and try to shut down the other team's offense."

The Tigers held the Trojans to single digits in each of the last two quarters, putting together a string of fast- break baskets by Ciara Morris and Chinyere Bell to build a cushion.

Morris and Bell each finished with 13 points.

With an 11-point lead to start the final quarter, South View rolled to victory.

Morris made all three free throws after being fouled by Lauren Evans behind the arch to make it 45-29.

Cook twice dribble the baseline to find position for a reverse layup, the second time at the 3-minute mark to give South View its biggest lead, 58-35.

"I told the players that I thought this is the best finish they've had," Tigers coach Brent Barker said. "There have been games where we had an eight or 10-point lead, and different teams have been able to trim it back. We've improved on that."
