Briefs: Locals make state games; Locklear commits to Cal

Region kids picked for state games

Seven Cape Fear region baseball players made rosters for the State Games of North Carolina.

Pine Forest's Britt Kuchen and Gray's Creek's Brandon Browne and Tyler Herbert made the East Senior Team. South View's Dale Urquhart and Jack Britt's Matt McKnight will play on the Region 4 squad. Hobbton's Brad Evans and Midway's Matthew Spell made the Region 2 team.

Games will be held from June 16-20 at UNC-Charlotte and Hopewell High School.

Jack Britt graduate Jordan Locklear has committed to run track and field at Cal-Berkeley next year.

Buccaneers track coach Rick Stoker announced Locklear's decision Friday. The 2009 Britt grad has been living in California, training and studying. He is expected to run middle-distance events for the Golden Bears.
