Pine Forest's Radford brothers sign college letters

Pine Forest's Radford brothers, Kevin and Kenneth, both signed national letters of intent Thursday to wrestle at the college level. Kevin committed to Ohio State while Kenneth chose The Citadel.

Kevin said he's been a Buckeye fan since he was little.

"It's always been home,'' he said. He'd also like to be part of an Ohio State team that could knock perennial Big Ten wrestling power Iowa out of first place.

Kevin expects to wrestle in the 184-pound weight class as a freshman.

"They might start me as a true freshman,'' Kevin said. "It all depends on how my development goes, how I acclimate to the situation.''

Kevin said he'd obviously prefer getting the chance to compete immediately.

"I want to show I don't need the extra year to catch up with the big guys,'' he said.

Kevin finished last season with a 46-3 record. He was the 189-pound state champion in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A wrestling tournament.

Kenneth Radford said he picked The Citadel because he has family in South Carolina, and because of the structured military environment at the school.

"It was something I liked,'' he said.

He hopes to wrestle in either the 157 or 165-pound class as a freshman.

"They said I have a chance to start if I work hard, but they might red-shirt me,'' Kenneth said.

Kenneth was 43-5 last season in the 171-pound weight class. He placed fifth in the state 4-A tournament.
