Ten county wrestlers advance

 

GREENSBORO - Defending state champion Timmy McCall of South View leads 10 Cumberland County wrestlers into the championship brackets of the N.C. High School Athletic Association wrestling championships at the Greensboro Coliseum.

All 10 wrestlers won twice Friday and will compete in the semifinals today. Competition resumes at 8:30 a.m. The championship finals are at 6 p.m.

Wrestlers still in the 4-A title hunt with McCall, who is at 189 pounds, are Seventy-First's Jackie Green at 215, Pine Forest's Kevin Radford at 189 and Kenneth Radford at 171, Jack Britt's Jared Bartram at 160 and Darius Delgado at 135, Cape Fear's Blake Norris at 145, South View's Kamal Leak at 125 and E.E. Smith's Malcolm Williams at 119.

Douglas Byrd's Ethan Morales is in the 112-pound championship bracket in the 3-A classification.

Winston-Salem Parkland leads the team race with 78.5 points. County schools in the top 20 are Pine Forest 22, Jack Britt 20, South View 19 and Seventy-First 18.
